Edible Yard Project

Goal: To increase the food security, food quality, and neighborhood interactions in Berea through promotion and facilitation of home gardening and community gardens.

Priority projects:

Raised beds constructed by Sustainable Berea members from either cedar or pressure-treated lumber are for sale at low cost. Sustainable Berea has worked with city government, the public library, and area churches to place raised beds for vegetable production in highly visible locations. For ordering information [click to go to raised bed page]

Rain barrels manufactured by Sustainable Berea capture rain water for irrigation of home gardens. More information [click for rain barrel page]

Dwarf fruit tree and berry bush sales are held each spring and fall with discounts for members. Spring 2009 was the Turning Berea Black and Blue project with sales of blackberries and blueberries. Fall 2009 featured apples.

The Reskilling Berea 2010 calendar will feature information on growing, processing and storing food. Available now. See homepage for more details.
